This is a gentle reminder to please purchase your students sketchbooks. They must be at least 8.5x11in. You can find them at any arts and crafts store, Walmart, and even some corner drug stores. Students draw in their sketchbooks almost every day so it is extremely important. In 5th Grade, sketchbooks are part of their grade. At this point in the semester, every 5th grader should have a sketchbook. Not having one will directly affect their grade.

Solar Eclipse: Drawing Space!
Last week because of all of the excitement about the solar eclipse, I had the students draw space. They learned how to use certain techniques with oil pastels on black paper to give the effect of stars, the moon, and other planets. Take a look at some of the beautiful drawings they created!

Portfolios!
This week students are putting together and completing their portfolios. These portfolios will stay with them for the rest of the school year, helping them keep their art and projects separate and safe in the classroom. Look at that a wonderful job they did decorating them and making them unique to themselves.
Name Tags!
Last week students did a fun project that would help me learn their names. So many unique and creative fonts and designs! I am excited to see how they will grow this year.

Welcome Back!
Welcome Back Archway Parents and Guardians!
I am excited to see what beautiful things your students will create this year in my art class.
Unfortunately, I must make it clear that your child will not be taking any of their artwork home for almost the entire year. This is because, every year, we have a big Student Art Show in the spring. I prefer to hang on to each piece your child creates so that I can pick the best one to display at the end of the year. Please, be patient. If you need to see what your child is up to in my class, look through this blog. I will be posting extensive updates (with images) of what we are covering in class every week. Please, follow along with the progress of your students beautiful art work!
Also, it was brought to my attention recently that sketchbooks were not included in the class supplies list. I apologize for this oversight and late notice. I do require every student to have a sketchbook in my class. These sketchbooks will stay with the students at school. The sketchbook can be any brand as long as it is 8"x10" in the smallest dimension. You can buy one many places at an affordable price (Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or any art store). Please, provide your child with a sketchbooks as soon as possible.
Again, I am so thrilled to meet all your students and begin this new school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please send me a private email: bvoron@archwaylincoln.org.
Best,
Miss Voron
